Interfaith Tech Associates uses the Internet to promote dialogue and collaboration  among people of faith, for the advancement of peace, locally and globally.

A short while ago I joined the internet social network of photographers called Flickr (http://www.flickr.com).  There are perhaps hundreds of thousands of Flickr members, both amateur and pro, who share their photographs and join various groups of common interest.  In the slideshow above, I share with the permission of one of my Flickr contacts, Jerry Lee, some of his shots of a Buddhist street festival, Wisakha Bucha Day,  in rural northeast Thailand where he lives.   Jerry writes:

"Wisakha Bucha Day is the most sacred occasion for the whole Buddhist world. It marks three important events in the life of Gotama Buddha's life. The three are his birth, enlightenment and his passing into Parinibbana. These events all took place on the full moon of the sixth lunar month."

In the slideshow you will see white powder on the faces of some celebrants.  I asked Jerry whether this was a symbol of purification.  He said he isn't sure, but he does know that many of the celebrants wear a white string around their wrists which is a token of a blessing by a Buddhist priest.

Pictures say so much!  If you have pictures that might help people understand a practice in your community of faith, please share them here!
